Meeting Description:

The congress aims at an in depth discussion of the parameters relevant to the evaluation of the degree of vitality of a minority language. Particular attention will be given to quantitative and qualitative indices that may be used for monitoring the ‘health condition’ of languages with a minority position in a country. The situation of the Italian language in Switzerland will be a special focus of interest.

The congress themes are:

A) Indices of a minority language vitality

(i) The concept of vitality index and its relevance for minority languages
(ii) Internal linguistic vitality
(iii) External sociolinguistic vitality
(iv) Methodology for quantitative measurements
(v) Methodology for qualitative measurements

B) Goals and aims of the researches on language vitality

(i) Sociolinguistic situation of a community and language vitality researches
(ii) Implications, effects and hints of the language vitality researches for a minority language protection and promotion

Call for Papers:

The congress program contemplates 8 invited presentations (40 minutes each) and a workshop with 8 papers selected through this Call for Papers.

Papers on general aspects concerning the Congress themes will be welcome but main attention should be devoted to the situation of Italian language in Swiss Confederation and to similar European comparable situations.

Abstracts:

Researchers working on these topics are invited to send an abstract of about 500 words of their proposed paper. The abstracts should contain the paper title, the name of the author /authors, the postal and e-mail addresses, the thematic area and have to be sent to the e-mail address decs-olsi@ti.ch. Abstracts received will be reviewed and selected by the Scientific Committee.

Deadline to submit abstracts: 31st January 2010.

Deadline of notifications of acceptance/rejection: 30th March 2010

A small contribution to the expenses may be assigned to PhD students presenting an accepted paper or at least taking part to the congress. Interested PhD students are invited to send the application within 31st January 2010, along with the title of their PhD thesis and a presentation letter by their PhD professor.

Querémosvos comunicar que dende o Departamento de Filoloxía Galega e Latina da Universidade de Vigo acabamos de poñer a andar o LOCUS CRITICUS (https://webs.uvigo.es/locuscriticus/), un foro ou plataforma dixital de debate sobre cuestións de crítica textual centradas na lírica medieval. Coidamos que esta é unha iniciativa útil que pode facilitar a comunicación entre os membros do noso eido científico (sobre todo na edición de textos trobadorescos), así como actualizar e axilizar a reflexión e o debate sobre aspectos problemáticos derivados da lectura e interpretación das fontes manuscritas.

Le groupe ??? et le réseau Gramm-R organisent un colloque international consacré au thème de la variation en langue. L’ambition de ce colloque est d’inciter au débat interdisciplinaire par le biais de communications qui aborderont des problématiques aussi diverses que :

-Le rapport oral / écrit
-Le rapport standard / dialectes
-Le rapport micro-système / macro-système
-Les continuités et discontinuités dans l’évolution des langues romanes
-La transition du latin aux langues romanes
-Les paramètres de la variabilité

Le colloque accueillera en son sein un atelier consacré à l’évolution diachronique des systèmes de cohésion du français, en ciblant la catégorie de la conjonction : Diachronie des conjonctions. Cet atelier, organisé par Annie Bertin et Hava Bat-Zeev Shyldkrot, prendra principalement pour champ d’observation les périodes du moyen français (14e-15e siècles) et du français pré-classique (16e- début 17e siècles).

En réunissant des spécialistes ?uvrant dans différentes branches de la linguistique – que ce soit la linguistique historique, la dialectologie, la sociolinguistique, la stylistique, la pragmatique – afin qu’ils échangent leur expertise, nous espérons voir émerger de nouvelles perspectives, qui pourront féconder les recherches sur la dynamique et le changement en langues.

Meeting Description:

Going Romance is the European conference series that focuses on Romance
languages from the perspective of current linguistic theorizing. In the two
decades of its existence, it has developed into the major European discussion
forum for theoretically relevant research on Romance languages where current
ideas about language in general and about Romance languages in particular are
discussed. This year, for the first time, the conference is really going Romance
and will be held in Nice, France. Organized by the Radboud University Nijmegen
and the Université de Nice-Sophia Antipolis, it will take place in the Maison du
Séminaire, 3-5 December 2009.

This year’s invited speakers will be:

-Donca Steriade
-Luigi Rizzi
-Anne Zribi-Hertz

The conference lasts for three days, with two days for the general session.
Slots for invited speakers are 60 minutes (45+15), while slots for selected
speakers are 40 minutes (30+10). The conference includes a workshop on
Diachrony of the Romance Languages on December 5th.

Call for Papers

As every year, the third day of the conference is devoted to a special
workshop. This year, the workshop focuses on linguistic change in relation to
linguistic theory. We invite abstracts for 40 minute presentations (30 minute talk,
10 minute discussion).

In order to submit, please upload an anonymous abstract on the Going Romance
2009 page of Easy Abstracts (http://linguistlist.org/confcustom/goingromance09)
by the 1st of September 2009, indicating whether your abstract is intended for
the main session or the special workshop.  You will be notified of acceptance
by October 1st, 2009.

The conference will be held in the Maison du Séminaire (http://www.maison-
seminaire-nice.cote.azur.fr), where rooms have been reserved at a group rate
for Going Romance 2009.
